Ukraine said more Russian soldiers and armored vehicles crossed the border on Wednesday, the latest in a string of suspected Russian activity in the conflict-torn east and subsequent accusations from Ukraine.

Ukrainian military spokesman Andriy Lysenko said a unit of Russian troops crossed the border in armored infantry vehicles and made its way to the town of Amvrosiyivka, Reuters reported. The town lies close to where Ukraine caught 10 Russian troops that crossed the border on Monday.

Also on Monday, several Russian armored personnel vehicles were reportedly seen headed for the town of Novoazovsk, which was recently taken over by the separatists.

The Russian incursion is evidence of intent to form a new rebel stronghold in addition to the current ones in Donetsk and Luhansk cities, Ukrainian officials said. Separatists, who are relentlessly fighting to gain independence, have already declared their own eastern autonomous region called Novorossiya, or "New Russia."

Lysenko said Russia also stepped up military activity in Crimea, the former Ukrainian peninsula that was annexed by Moscow in March and sparked the deadly conflict between Ukrainian government forces and pro-Russian separatists.

Military intelligence reports found Russian surveillance drones in Crimea and at least three Russian helicopters that violated Ukrainian airspace, Lysekno said according to The Washington Post.

Russia, who has maintained it is not aiding the rebels, did not immediately comment on the latest accusations. A Russian defense ministry official said the 10 soldiers captured Monday crossed the border by accident.

Meanwhile, in Belarus, talks were held between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko to end the conflict that has killed over 2,000 civilians and displaced thousands more.

On Tuesday Putin said "Russia, for its part, will do everything to support this peace process if it starts," The Post reported.
