A Kentucky teenager is lucky to be alive after he set himself on fire last Friday in a reenactment of the "fire challenge" shown in videos all over Facebook and YouTube, WKYT-TV reported.

The unnamed 15-year-old admitted he wasn't really thinking when he poured rubbing alcohol on his chest and set himself on fire, just like it's done in the viral videos.

"I just poured alcohol on it, and lit it, and it just automatically went and burst," the boy told the station.

But what began as a daring stunt resulted in firefighters arriving at his aunt's Lexington home. The teenager was transported to UK hospital where he was treated for second-degree burns.

"Unbearable, yeah, basically," the teen told the station of his burns. "Literally after it got put out it was already blistering. It's just hard."

Lexington firefighters told WKYT-TV they have never heard of the "fire challenge" videos, which show teenagers spraying aerosol cans on their bodies before setting themselves on fire.

One disturbing video of a North Carolina teen who set his chest aflame with rubbing alcohol was shared over 100,000 times on Facebook, WBTV reported.

The method is apparently supposed to be a way to singe the hair off one's body. Unfortunately for the 15-year-old, the videos don't show what happens to the person after the fire is set.

"What they don't show at the end of the videos is the consequences of doing this, getting second and third degree burns," Chris Harrod, captain of the Lexington Fire Department, told the station.

The boy told the station he's not sure why he set himself on fire and that he did not think about the consequences. He now want's others to take a lesson from his experience.

"You can get caught on fire and die, your house can get caught on fire, wherever you're at can get caught on fire," said the teen, who is now recovering.

Child services have been notified and will investigate the incident, Lexington police told WKYT-TV.
