Free agent Ray Allen reportedly is leaning toward rejoining superstar LeBron James and signing with the Cleveland Cavaliers.  The Dallas Mavericks, who reportedly were trying to sign the veteran guard, now appear even more unlikely to land Allen.

Allen looks like he will forego retirement and play another season in the league.  A report Thursday by the Boston Globe indicates the 3-point specialist is favoring joining his friend, James, in Cleveland.

"Former Celtic and Heat standout Ray Allen is leaning towards returning for a 19th NBA season and joining former teammate LeBron James with the Cleveland Cavaliers, according to a league source," Gary Washburn of The Globe wrote.  "... James, along with ex-Heat swingman Mike Miller, who signed with the Cavaliers earlier this month, have been lobbying Allen to join them with the resurrected franchise."

In addition to his prowess beyond the arc, Allen would join Miller and James in bringing veteran leadership to Cleveland's talented but young team.

Dallas also reportedly wants to sign Allen, but they appear to be an unlikely destination.

"Sources tell DallasBasketball.com that (the Mavs') 'mystery target' is Ray Allen," Fisher tweeted Tuesday.

Like he did with the Miami Heat, Allen would have to take a pay cut to sign in Cleveland.  He stands a far better chance, however, of winning another NBA championship if he becomes a Cavalier.  Cleveland purportedly is trying to trade for Minnesota Timberwolves star Kevin Love, whose interest in the Cavaliers is piqued after the signing of James.

Cleveland is believed to be offering 2014 first overall pick Andrew Wiggins and 2013 first overall pick Anthony Bennett in a package for Love.
