How Channing Tatum’s new Gambit role will be introduced in the “X-Men” franchise is still unknown.

Writer Simon Kinberg explained to the Latino Review it remains unclear if Gambit will be included in the “X-Men” franchise. There are rumors of Gambit starring in his own film before making a cameo in the “X-Men” films, but Kinberg couldn’t confirm the news.

“I genuinely don’t know the answer to that question,” Kinberg said. “It’s something we are all talking about whether it would be good for Gambit to be in a mainline X-MEN movie or he would be in his own stand-alone movie potentially one day to be able to be in another X-MEN movie after his Gambit movie introduces him. I really don’t know the answer.

“I don’t think there is a hard and fast rule which way is better. I think both ways have worked and I think actually the real question will be is there a role that is strong and specific enough for Gambit in a mainline X-MEN movie whether it be APOCALYPSE or future X-MEN movie that would be the right way to introduce the character. You don’t want to stick characters in these movies and manufacture something for them to do."

Tatum spoke to the Latino Review back in June, stating he has yet to sign a deal with FOX to get the film production started. However, the “22 Jump Street” actor is excited to take on the role.

"I'm super hyped about it. I would say we're going to try do something maybe a little different," Tatum told The Latino Review. "I don't know how to exactly explain it just yet, but he's a character character. He's got a serious Cajun accent. I don't know if you've heard a Cajun accent, but [we're] going to [need] subtitles at some times.”
