The Falcon will ditch his old super hero attire to don the famous red, white and blue shield.

Marvel CCO Joe Quesada announced former Falcon Sam Wilson would become the new Captain America, replacing the legendary Steve Rodgers. Quesada made the announcement on “The Colbert Report” on Wednesday.

Wilson made history in 1969 when he made his first appearance in the “Captain America” comics, created by Stan Lee and Gene Colan, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The character was the first African-American superhero in mainstream comics, and eventually went solo as the Falcon in 1978.

The announcement of Rodgers’ replacement comes on the heels of Marvel’s unveiling of the new Thor. The new mystery woman was unveiled during ABC’s “The View.” She was created by Marvel writer Jason Aaron and artist Russell Dauterman.

Unlike some heroines before her, the new Thor isn’t the female version of the male character. The mystery woman is the one and only Thor in the Marvel universe.

"This is not She-Thor. This is not Lady Thor. This is not Thorita. This is THOR. This is the THOR of the Marvel Universe. But it's unlike any Thor we've ever seen before," Aaron said in a press release.

Even more exciting for the comic is the new Thor is the eighth female heroine to star in a Marvel classic as the protagonist. Marvel editor Wil Moss is adamant the mysterious heroine is worthy of the hammer.

"The inscription on Thor's hammer reads 'Whosoever holds this hammer, if HE be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor.' Well it's time to update that inscription," Moss said in a press release. "The new Thor continues Marvel's proud tradition of strong female characters like Captain Marvel, Storm, Black Widow and more. And this new Thor isn't a temporary female substitute - she's now the one and only Thor, and she is worthy!"
