A veteran flight attendant for United Airlines was found dead in the trunk of a car in Indiana on Monday.

The body of 54-year-old DeCarol Deloney-Cain was found with multiple stab wounds in the trunk of a 2008 Toyota Solara on a gravel road in a wooded area of Gary, Indiana, NBC Chicago reported. Deloney was wrapped up and had suffered blunt force trauma to the head, according to the Lake County Coroner.

"It had to be foul play, you know something like that," Blake Deloney, the flight attendant's son, told WGN-TV. "Maybe even personal or maybe it was just a random act."

Deloney-Cain, of Crown Point, had been a flight attendant for United Airlines for 25 years. Her son said she never missed a shift in her career, which is why he was concerned when the airline called him Sunday and said his mother did not show up for work, NBC Chicago reported.

The last time Deloney-Cain's family saw her was just before July 4, according to CBS Chicago. The family learned of the murder when the body was found on Monday, but the victim's name was not released until Wednesday.

Gary police have already searched the victim's Crown Point home to trace her last steps. So far one promising lead has turned up, but no arrests have been made. Investigators offered no comment as to whether the victim knew her killer or if the murder was random, CBS Chicago reported.

Deloney-Cain was "always smiling, big smile, always happy, never really down much. And if she was, she'd come out of it quickly," Deloney told NBC Chicago. "She means everything to me."
