Illinois State University announced it is changing the "Family" sign outside all single-stall bathrooms to "All-Gender," university newspaper The Vidette  reported.

"All-Gender" refers to transgender people, those who are transitioning, men and women. The decision to change the signs comes as more universities are taking steps to recognize transgender rights, including Illinois Wesleyan University which changed its signs a year ago.

"The reason for it is rather simple- it evidences the university's efforts to have an inclusive environment," Michael Shane McCreery, director of the Office of Equal Opportunity, Ethics and Access, told The Vidette.

The new signs have the traditional bathroom symbols for men and women, as well as a half woman, half man symbol. A wheel chair symbol also appears on the sign.

Bathrooms in the school's Bone Student Center, the Student Counseling Services center and others in dormitories will be changed, a total of ten, according to The Vidette.  All other bathrooms will remain the same, McCreery said.

"While most people may not even know the sign has changed, I'm anticipating those in the LGBTQ community will appreciated it," McCreery told the paper.

Though officials hope the progressive change brings a positive reaction, one news show, "Fox & Friends," found the news a bit humorous.

"Fox & Friends" anchor Heather Nauert suggested the decision was spearheaded by the "P.C. police" as she reported the story on July 9, MediaMatters.org reported.

"We're all a little confused by it," Nauert said.

The rest of the "Fox & Friends" crew can be heard snickering in the background.

But for ISU the new signs recognize the school's increasing transgender population, Dave Bentlin, administrative assistant in the Division of Student Affairs, told The Vidette.

"You could say it's an all-human restroom," McCreery said.
