Researchers at iStrategyLabs have found a new way to snap selfies without the need to hold out the phone to the mirror, with an all-new S.E.L.F.I.E mirror.

Selfie was officially added into the English lexicon by the Oxford Dictionaries Online owing to its popularity. Anyone with a social networking account on Facebook or Twitter is aware of the selfie craze. Taking advantage of this popularity, researchers at the iStrategyLabs came up with a unique idea of building a selfie mirror called the S.E.L.F.I.E.

S.E.L.F.I.E is the short form of Self Enhancing Live Feed Imagine Engine. Powered by a Mac Mini, S.E.L.F.I.E. is a two-way mirror that uses a webcam hidden inside a small cabinet behind the mirror along with Arduino-controlled LEDs. A person is required to stand on a custom vinyl mark on the floor and smile, for a selfie, according to the company's official website.

S.E.L.F.I.E. detects a smile for a couple of seconds using the Mac's facial recognition software and initiates a countdown using the LEDs before taking a photograph. Once snapped, the photo will be published on Twitter with a watermark or a logo.

The S.E.L.F.I.E. mirror is a convenient answer to the traditional selfies, which require users to hold out their smartphones in front of the mirror and place it correctly while posing for a snap. The mirror may not be an ideal addition to one's room, but S.E.L.F.I.E. has  great commercial value. It can be used in clothing stores, where people can try new collections and pose for a selfie and the company can use them to promote the clothing line on Twitter.

The S.E.L.F.I.E. mirror is not publicly available for sale but you can get the folks at the iStrategyLabs to build one for you. Companies can choose their logo or watermark to appear on the photo that will be tweeted out to the followers.
