A New York lottery powerball ticket came in one number shy of winning the $259.8 million jackpot during Wednesday's drawing.

According to Newsday, the second place ticket was sold at a Ridge 7-Eleven in New York's Suffolk County.

According to a press release from The Tennessee Lottery, the winning piece was sold in the Volunteer State. The agency does not know anything about the lucky individual. This will remain the case until the winner comes forward to claim the prize within the next 180 days.

The service suggests the person reveal themselves very carefully when coming forth to receive their money.

"The Tennessee Lottery advises the lucky ticket-holder to sign the back of the ticket, keep it in a safe place, consult with a financial and/or legal professional, and to call its Nashville office before coming to claim the prize," the agency said in a statement. The person will receive $153.5 million if they choose the prize's lump sum payment option.

The prize is the largest the state's lottery has ever seen. It is also its second mega jackpot in 2014. A mother and son in Bellevue, Wash., won a $61 million mega millions jackpot on Jan. 3, 2014

According to Lottery Syndicate World, Bettina Still and son Jonathan bought the winning slip at a Shell Station on Bellevue, Wash.'s Old Harding Pike. The two waited a week before introducing themselves to the world.

Bettina has competed in the money games since Tennessee established the lottery on Jan. 20, 2004 according to the press release.

The program has funded over $3 billion for education programs throughout the state. These include college scholarships, and after-school programs.

According to the entity's website, customers have been awarded more than $7 billion in prize money since its inception. Retailers raked in more than $753 million from partnership commissions.
