A Texas newlywed couple died Wednesday morning after their cars collided head-on into each other as they drove in separate care near their workplace, police said.

According to New York Daily News, 26-year-old Cristina Munoz was driving her 1999 Saturn north when it drifted across the unmarked, paved County Road 87 and fatally smashed into 31-year-old Nicolas Cruz's 1990 Mazda pickup, police told the Times Record News.

Due to their shift patterns at the Mahard Pullet Farm, Muniz and Cruz often took two cars. On Wednesday, they were driving in separate cars between two different buildings used by the business, the News reported.

After Muniz drifted across the road, she slammed into her husband's truck at the crest of a hill. They were pronounced dead on the scene, UK MailOnline reported.

The Chillicothe couple likely both drove to work because of different shift schedules and the need to use their vehicles during work hours, Department of Public Safety Trooper Jymie Ha told the newspaper.

The force of the crash was so great that rescuers needed special tools to extricate the young dead couple from their mangled vehicles after the 10 a.m. Wednesday wreck near Odell, police said.

They were reported to not have been wearing seat belts, according to UK MailOnline.

"It appears speed and the layout of the road, including a hill crest, are going to be factors in the cause of the accident," Ha told the Times Record News.

Police are still investigating what led to the crash, on a narrow road that had no markings.

"This is a very narrow, blacktop county road and there are no markings," a trooper said. "There are no shoulder markings and there are no center stripe markings."

Married in April 2013, Muniz and Cruz had two sons and a daughter,

They were both originally from Mexico, but had been raising their family in Chillicothe, Texas. Muniz had also attended Prosper High School.
