California Chrome's chance of becoming the first Triple Crown winner in 36 years depends on winning Preakness. Contrary to reports indicating California Chrome might be sick, assistant trainer Alan Sherman insists California Chrome is "in perfect shape" and ready for Saturday.

"California Chrome is fine," Sherman said on Friday, via ESPN. "His throat is fine. He got a little tickle, but he's not going to be scratched. I don't know why it was blown out of proportion. The horse is in perfect shape."

Trainer Art Sherman doesn't expect weather to be a factor in the race and reiterated he would let California Chrome's jockey, Victor Espinosa, decide what to do when the field breaks from the starting gate.

"If there is speed in this race, he's not going to be too far off it," Art Sherman said. "The horse will run his race. They better have their running shoes on. I think we'll do really well. Victor said he has never gotten to the bottom of the horse."
