Hulu Plus has unveiled the new Hulu Plus remote control app, which lets people use mobile devices to control streaming media on video game consoles.

The announcement was made on Hulu's blog on Thursday, according to Digital Trends. The update is available to users of Hulu Plus apps on consoles such as Xbox One, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4 systems.

All users have to do is launch the remote control app on their Android or iOS device, and the app will automatically detect the console. After "casting" selections on the screen, users can look through other shows and movies on their mobile device to choose what they want to watch. Users then cast the select to the screen at any time.

Mitch Walker, senior development lead at Hulu, said the new app makes it easy for people to use a mobile device to look for and watch Hulu's shows, clips and episodes without interrupting another stream on the TV, PC Magazine reported.

Walker said that the remote control app retains "all of the controls you've come to expect from Hulu Plus such as pause/resume, seek, and 10-second rewind." He added that switching Hulu Plus content from a tablet or phone to a TV connected to a console is as easy as pressing a button.

"Need to go downstairs to grab a snack? No problem," he said.

Hulu said more products in the mobile plus TV area will be developed, The Next Web reported.

"The Hulu Seattle and Santa Monica teams are always creating new connected experiences so that you, our subscribers, can have more great ways to enjoy Hulu Plus in the living room," the company said. "We launched the remote control functionality with the goal of finding and consuming your favorite content easier than ever."

Walker said the company will keep working on expanding more remote control functions to the new Hulu Plus app, PC Magazine reported. Hulu will also work on more living room devices in the next several months.
