The Detroit Lions are reportedly considering trading defensive end Ndamukong Suh for a higher pick in the 2014 NFL draft.  Detroit may be going after defensive end Jadeveon Clowney, according to Scott Bischoff of NewEraScouting.com.

"Per a source, the (Lions) are having discussions about moving (Suh) before the draft to move up as high as possible in the first round," Bischoff tweeted on Wednesday.  "This kind of deal is difficult, lots of hurdles to clear, but thru a common sense lens it makes sense if trying to get to (Clowney)."

Trading Suh would be difficult because of his contract.  Suh is due $11.55 million this season, which is a huge chunk of salary cap space that a lot of teams may not have available.  CBS Sports reports any deal involving Suh would likely have to be a sign and trade.

Multiple reports have indicated Detroit wants to trade up in the draft.

"I don't know that the front office has said anything about wanting to trade up, but that's certainly the perception they've given people across the league," Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press wrote on Friday in a chat.  "And when they bring in (Jadeveon) Clowney, Watkins, etc., guys who won't be there at 10, that adds to it.

"That said, talking to people across the league, sounds like a lot of teams will be looking to move down come draft day so the Lions could have a few trade partners."

Khalil Mack, whom the Lions have also hosted, is another possible target in the draft.  Detroit reportedly wants to find a "flamethrower" to send at opposing quarterbacks, and the former Buffalo linebacker fits that bill.

Both the Houston Texans and St. Louis Rams, owners of the first and second picks, reportedly are willing to trade their picks for the right price.

The draft begins on Thursday, May 8.
