A woman in Massachusetts was arrested on Wednesday after allegedly attacking her boyfriend with an ax.

According to FoxNews.com, Rhonda Ravanis, 47, of Lunenburg, was charged with attempted murder, assault with a dangerous weapon, vandalizing property, resisting arrest, and disturbing the peace.

The incident occurred early Wednesday around 1 a.m., leaving Robert Volpe, 53, in the hospital with a critical neck wound. Police say Ravanis then used to the ax to damage the neighbor's house after attacking Volpe.

In a report by The Sentinel and Enterprise, Ravanis reportedly said "I axed him. He is gone. I am all alone," to the resident of the house she attacked.

"I axed him," Ravanis allegedly said. "We both know what's going to happen. I just killed him."

As officers arrested her, she kicked and spit at them.

Though arraignment was originally set for Wednesday, it was rescheduled because Ravanis was being uncooperative, FoxNews.com said. Instead, she was sent for a competency evaluation at the Worcester Recovery Center and will make a court appearance next month, with an attorney that will be appointed to her.

Volpe remains in stable but critical condition at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. A possible motive for the attack is unknown and the investigation is ongoing.

"It's unbelievable," said 15-year-old Jason Stone, a neighbor of Ravanis, told The Sentinel and Enterprise. "You'd never think somewhere in Lunenburg this would happen."
