The former leader of the California Blue Angels has been removed from his position, as the Navy probes accusations of misconduct.

USA Today reported that Capt. Gregory McWherter was relieved of his duties as the second-in-command officer at Coronado Naval Base this week. McWherter reportedly took the position in November, and then was moved to Naval Air Forces in San Diego.

According to an announcement made by the Navy on Friday, McWherter headed up the precision flyers at the Naval Air Station in Penascola, Fla., between November 2008 and November 2010. He then returned to the same station from May of 2011 to November 2012, USA Today reported. McWherter came back once more after a commander of the squadron was ousted for allowing jets to fly low to the ground during a show in Virginia.

In a complaint filed on March 24, Navy officials alleged that McWherter participated in "misconduct and an inappropriate command climate," while he worked with the Blue Angels. Details on just what the misconduct was haven't yet been released, according to USA Today.

Commander of Navy Installations Command Vice Adm. William French said McWherter was moved off of his post after unspecified results from the initial investigation surfaced.

The probe is ongoing, French added.

A spokesperson filing on behalf of the Naval Air Force Atlantic Command in Norfolk, Va. said one unidentified person originally filed the official complaint.

McWherter hasn't yet issued an official statement on the matter, USA Today reported.

The Atlanta-born ex-Blue Angels leader graduated as a "Top Gun" from the Navy's Fighter Weapons School.
