Police have taken into custody a man suspected of leaving a backpack with explosives at the Boston Marathon finish line on Tuesday night.

The suspect, Kayvon Edson, was allegedly dressed in all black, a black veil and had no shoes on when he yelled "Boston Strong," and left the backpack at the finish line on Boylston Street at around 7 p.m., the New York Daily News reported.

After the police stopped Edson he told them he had a rice cooker in his bag, WBZ-TV reported.

The incident comes one year after two bombs made from pressure cookers were detonated near the finish line, killing three people and injuring more than 260.

A bomb squad was called to the scene and the street was evacuated immediately after Edson said he had a rice cooker, the station reported.

In addition to the backpack, another backpack was also left near the finish line. The second backpack was apparently left by another person, the Daily News reported.

Police safely detonated both bags, the first at around 9 p.m. and the second one 40 minutes later, WBZ-TV reported. The rice cooker in Edson's bag turned out to be filled with confetti. A source told the station that the other bag contained photo equipment.

The bags were "disrupted for precautionary reasons," police told the station.

Boylston Street was reopened at around 11:30 p.m.

Edson was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace and possession of a hoax device, WBZ-TV reported.

Edson describes himself as "a fashion designer, an entrepreneur, a performance artist, a mental patient, a blogger/bloggerist, a jailbird, a college dropout and a drag queen," according to a video he posted on YouTube in 2012, the Daily News reported.

Survivors and families of the victims of last year's bombings gathered at the finish line earlier on Tuesday to mark the one year anniversary. A moment of silence was held at 2:49 p.m. in remembrance of the victims, the Daily News reported.

This year's marathon is scheduled for April 21.
