The San Francisco 49ers' linebacker was arrested on Sunday, after he reportedly threatened a TSA agent at Los Angeles International Airport.

24-year-old Aldon Smith was arrested on a charge of false report of a bomb threat after an altercation with an airport official. According to a statement released by Los Angeles Police Department Sgt. Karla Ortiz, Smith was taken aside for additional security screenings at LAX. USA Today reported that Smith suddenly grew combative with authorities at the checkpoint, Sunday afternoon.

Ortiz's statement said Smith became "belligerent and uncooperative with the process and with the TSA agent, making a comment indicating that he was in possession of a bomb before proceeding towards the gate area."

Smith was reportedly still "uncooperative" when law enforcement officials showed up to the scene.

General Manager of the San Francisco 49ers Trent Baalke hasn't yet commented on the matter, apart from an official statement released by a spokesperson for the NFL team.

"We are disappointed to learn of the incident today involving Aldon Smith," Baalke wrote in the statement. "As this is a pending legal matter and we are still gathering the pertinent facts, we will have no further comment."

This isn't the first time Smith has brushed with the law - he was arrested in September of last year on suspicion of DUI and marijuana possession, USA Today reported. He was previously charged with three felony weapons counts, after police found firearms at a party he'd held at his house June 2012.

Smith took a brief reprieve from his work with the Niners after the September arrest. He reportedly sought out professional help for substance abuse for five weeks, then came back to play with the 49ers Week 10. He actively participated for the rest of the season.

Smith has registered 110 tackles and 42 sacks since he first started playing for San Francisco in 2011.
