Katherine Heigl is suing a drugstore chain for $6 million over a picture it tweeted of her shopping at one of its locations.

The "27 Dresses" actress filed a lawsuit against Duane Reade on Wednesday, claiming the company misappropriated her image to promote its brand, CNN reported.

On March 18, Duane Reade tweeted "Love a quick #DuaneReade run? Even @KatieHeigl can't resist shopping #NYC's favorite drugstore," CNN reported.  A picture of Heigl apparently walking out of one of the store's locations carrying two shopping bags accompanies the tweet.

The tweet had a link to a story on JustJared.com that said the "Grey's Anatomy" star signed a deal with a new management agency. The same picture was used with the story.

Heigl's picture was also featured on Duane Reade's Facebook page, accompanied with a caption that read: "Don't you just love a quick #DuaneReade run? Even Katherine Heigl can't resist shopping at #NYC's most convenient drugstore," CNN reported.

According to the lawsuit, the use of Heigl's image "under these circumstances improperly exploited Plaintiffs name and likeness, as a celebrity, for Defendant's commercial advertising and purposes of trade, without authorization," CNN reported.

"Such use was done knowingly and willfully, as evidenced by Defendant's manipulation of and changes to the Duane Reade advertising messages in the captions, after Defendant had intentionally stripped out all evidence of the original news context to the Heigl Photograph."

After the picture was tweeted, Heigl's attorney's tried on several occasions to settle the dispute, asking that the picture be removed.

"Duane Reade ignored them. She tried repeatedly to have this settled without a lawsuit," an inside source told Us Weekly.

A Duane Reade spokesman told CNN it is against policy to comment on ongoing litigation.

Heigl, 35, will donate any money she is awarded to a charity she set up in honor of her brother who was killed in a car crash as a teenager, the lawsuit said, according to CNN.
