Two schools in Maryland were closed on Monday after deer and dogs crashed through the entrance and caused damage to the inside, the Baltimore Sun reported.

Three deer leapt through the glass doors of Southern Middle School and were followed by a pair of dogs, according to school system spokesman Bob Mosier.

An alarm at the middle school went off around 4 a.m. After officers responded, they found one deer being attacked by a German Shepherd. A second deer was "in distress" from bite marks and a third was found dead, trapped in a hallway, Lt. T.J. Smith said.

Southern Middle School also houses students from a nearby elementary school as it finishes construction.

Authorities said the two deer were "humanely euthanized due to the severity of their injuries from the dog attacks."

Both dogs, a German Shepherd and Labrador mix, were taken by Animal Control officers. Though neither had a collar, officers said they found the owners. The dogs are currently in custody of Animal Control.

Mosier said the cost of cleaning up the school and replacing the doors would cost between $3,000 to $5,000.

"Suffice it to say, the cleanup that was necessary prevented us from opening either school today," Mosier said.

According to the Sun, both schools will be open on Tuesday. Additionally, MSA tests will be carried out to ensure the safety for returning students.
