McLaren's Lando Norris, who had held the record for most podiums without a win in F1, finally claimed an impressive victory at the third annual Miami Grand Prix on Sunday.

The British driver finished ahead of Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc by taking advantage of a timely safety car, which allowed him to pit and keep the lead throughout the race.

Oscar Piastri, Norris's teammate and the race leader, was terribly unfortunate to have his front wing damaged by contact with Ferrari's Carlos Sainz.

Norris has finally won after 110 grand prix and 15 podium finishes.

"Thanks mum, thanks dad, this one's for my grandma," Norris said over his team radio.

He became the first McLaren driver to win since Daniel Ricciardo took the 2021 Italian Grand Prix, the 21st British driver to win an F1 race, and the first McLaren driver to win in the US since Lewis Hamilton in 2012.

"It's been a long time coming, but finally, I've been able to manage to do it," he said.

He expressed joy for the whole team as he finally delivered it. He said it had been a long day and a tough race, but he was finally on top, and he was over the moon.

After starting fifth, the British driver fell to sixth and could not pass Red Bull's Sergio Perez. With Perez out of the race, Norris was the fastest driver on the track.

Norris said he was so proud, even though many people doubted him along the way. He admitted that he has made a lot of mistakes over the last five years but said they put it all together.

Furthermore, he dedicated all of this to the team. He said he was stuck with McLaren because he believed in them.

Verstappen said over his team radio as Norris continued extending his lead over four seconds, saying that he could not get the car to turn, which was a disaster.
