Republican county official Rob Astorino announced his bid for governor of New York on Wednesday, WBFO reported.

Astorino, who would face off with current Gov. Andrew Cuomo, made the announcement in a video.

"I'm tired of listening to the fairy tale that everything is just great, when it's just the opposite," Astorino said. "I'm tired of watching New York's decline. Living in New York shouldn't sound like a prison sentence, but that's too often what you hear today."

The official Republican nominee will be determined in May, when state Republicans hold their nominating convention. Earlier reports suggest businessman and reality television star Donald Trump was considering a run in addition to Carl Paladino, who faced off with Cuomo in 2010.

When asked to comment on Astorino's announcement, the New York State Democratic Committee didn't seem too phased.

"We look forward to an entertaining Republican primary process and are ready to to run against whomever their nominee is in September." said Peter Kauffmann, spokesman for the NYSDC.

Additionally, a spokeswoman from NARAL Pro-Choice New York issued a statement, though their words were much more critical.

"Rob Astorino announced today that he wants to be the next governor of New York," said NARAL Pro-Choice New York President Andrea Miller. "Yet, he has shown flagrant disregard for the core values of the millions of pro-choice New Yorkers. Astorino has at every turn demonstrated a profound lack of respect for women's fundamental rights and basic health care needs."
