A day after clinching the Democratic presidential nomination, President Joe Biden is heading to the upper Midwest to continue his post-State of the Union campaign to sway voters away from his rival, Donald Trump.

Biden will speak in Milwaukee, Wisconsin at 5 p.m. ET. and will deliver remarks on his administration efforts to invest in local communities and create jobs. On Thursday, Biden will head to Michigan.

Biden will face a slight uphill battle in the those two states. The latest polls show that Trump, who clinched his own nomination on Tuesday, up by one point in Wisconsin, and up by 3.6 points in Michigan, according to RollCall, citing data from RealClearPolitics.

The White House said Biden will announce $3.3 billion in projects in 40 states to reconnect communities divided by mass highways, using funding from both the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the Inflation Reduction Act. US Vice President Kamala Harris, who campaigned in Colorado on Tuesday, visited Wisconsin last week to trumpet White House economic policies and talk about apprenticeship programs and "good-paying union jobs."

Biden will also have to contend with protesters while in the Badger state, as hundreds of pro-Palestinian marchers are expected to protest Biden's visit to Milwaukee over his handling of Israel's war on Gaza, sparked by the Oct. 7 attack of militant group Hamas, killing some 1,200 people.

More than 30,000 Palestinians have been killed as a result of Israel's retaliatory bombing and military activity in Gaza
