Jet2, the third largest airline in the United Kingdom, faced an alarming incident after one of its passengers was found dead inside the airplane toilet.

The air transportation service provider said that the incident happened on Tuesday, Jan. 2, after some passengers complained about the toilet being locked for a long period.

Since the duration of the cubicle being locked is quite unusual, Jet2 airplane staff were alerted. Although they quickly responded to the incident, it was already too late since the passenger died inside the cubicle.

According to The Daily Mail UK, the Jet2 airplane involved in the incident was flying from Tenerife (an island in Spain) to Manchester (a city in England).

However, the flight was interrupted because something unusual happened inside the airplane's cubicle. Because of the incident, the flight was forced to land in Ireland (Cork) instead.

"Flight LS918 from Tenerife to Manchester diverted to Cork Airport on Tuesday Jan. 2, due to a customer requiring medical attention," said the British airline's spokesperson via the Independent UK.

The original landing schedule of the Jet2 passenger plane was at 8:30 p.m. However, due to the commotion and the waiting time for another plane to carry the passengers, the flight arrived in Manchester at 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 3.

One of Jet2's travelers shared her disappointment, saying that they were devastated to know the passenger died inside the toilet. She even accused the U.K. airline's staff of being dismissive.

"My husband reported someone had been in [the] toilet a long time and he thought he was dead. Tragically he was right," said the woman.

She added that when her husband informed the crew, Jet2's employees were dismissive towards him.

The explanation provided by Jet2's spokesperson is unclear. The official said that they sadly announced the death of the passenger.

Despite all the best efforts of the British airline's "highly-trained" crew members, who quickly responded to the scene, they were still unable to save the traveler. "This was an extremely difficult situation for our crew and we would like to thank them for their efforts," said the Jet2 spokesman.

"Our thoughts are with the customer's family and friends at this very difficult time," he further stated.

As of press time, the main cause of the man's death hasn't been confirmed yet. Jet2 also didn't clarify if it will provide an update once its investigation is finished (if they are still investigating the incident).
