NYC Mayor Eric Adams announced that his migrant busing crackdown will soon include trains and airplanes. He said that this latest effort is a message to Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, who has been sending migrants to New York and other cities.

On December 27, 2023, Adams confirmed that he would start restricting the flow of migrants carried by charter buses. This legislation specifically applies to buses contracted by the state of Texas.

Now, Eric Adams wants to expand this restriction so that they can also monitor and limit migrants carried by trains and airplanes. Here's what the NYC leader said.

Migrants carry their belongings to a bus after accepting relocation after being evicted from the Watson Hotel on January 30, 2023 in New York City. Migrants who have been staying at the Watson Hotel since arriving to NYC were evicted over the weekend to be relocated to the recently opened up migrant relief center.

According to The New York Post's latest report, Eric Adams plans to include airplanes and trains in his migrant busing crackdown as he limits asylum seekers being sent to the Big Apple.

"We want to send the right message to bus operators - 'You should not participate in the actions of Governor Abbott,'" said Adams on Tuesday, Jan. 2.

He promised that they would use everything within their powers to make sure that they could stop migrants that are also being sent via trains and airplanes.

Aside from this, he also bashed Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, saying that New York City is dealing with a person "who just wants to disrupt."

New York Mayor Eric Adams attends a press conference on gun violence prevention and public safety on July 31, 2023 in New York City. Mayor Adams was joined by NY Gov. Kathy Hochul, NY Attorney General Letitia James, and members of local and state government and violence interruption groups to unveil NYC's Gun Violence Prevention Task Force.

Politico recently reported that the migrant busing restriction of NYC applies only between 8:00 a.m. and noon on weekdays. This legislation also requires buses to announce their arrival 32 hours in advance.

Eric Adams' administration confirmed the migrant busing crackdown after three cities pressed the White House, as well as the federal government, to provide more migrant aid.

This is because they are having a hard time as they claim that migrants cause the economic and government burden of feeding, housing, and educating thousands of asylum seekers.

Previously, the Adams administration complained that New York City was receiving almost 4,000 migrants each week. Based on statistics, over 161,000 asylum seekers already entered NYC ever since the migrant crisis began in 2022.

As of writing, New York City is estimated to be accommodating around 68,000 asylum seekers. Right now, Eric Adams hasn't shared specific details regarding the expansion of his migrant busing crackdown.

It is still unclear if the requirements imposed by the legislation for buses carrying asylum seekers will also apply to trains and airplanes.
