According to Fox News' latest report, Russia's Defense Ministry said that the warplane responsible for the accidental bombardment in the Russian village of Petropavlovka was allegedly forced to make an emergency release.

"At around 9:00 a.m. on January 2, while an Air Force plane was flying over the village of Petropavlovka in the Voronezh Region, there was an emergency release of aviation munitions," said the Ministry of Defense.

Luckily, there were no casualties, as claimed by the Russian army. But, the defense ministry confirmed that six private properties were destroyed because of the incident.

Russia said that an investigation is already being conducted to determine the main reason for the accidental bombardment. Meanwhile, a Russian commission is working on the ground to check the overall damage caused by the friendly fire.

The commission is also assisting in restoring the damaged houses. Voronezh Governor Alexander Gusev said that they moved some residents of Petropavlovka to temporary accommodation, as reported by The Guardian.

"I tasked my colleagues in the Voronezh region government to swiftly address issues concerning compensation payments and the construction of new housing," said the Russian governor.

He promised that they are committed to ensuring that no Russian civilians are overlooked in the latest friendly fire incident.

Firefighters fought an uphill battle against spreading forest fires that have already killed 30 people, destroyed thousands of homes, and mobilized hundreds of thousands of emergency workers.

On the same day of the accidental bombardment in the Russian village, the Kremlin also conducted its aerial assaults in Ukraine, killing five people.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed on Tuesday, Jan. 2, that almost 100 civilians were injured because of Russia's bombardment.

Before this, Russia allegedly launched its largest missile assault against Ukraine a few days before New Year. Ukrainian officials said that over 40 civilians died because of the barrage.

These incidents are a clear sign that the Russia-Ukraine war could continue beyond 2024.
