The fastest growing UK grocery this 2023 is now vapes, overtaking cigars, loose tobacco, and cigarettes. The new data from the British weekly magazine The Grocer and the market research company NIQ revealed this.

This announcement around a month after the UK government announced that it is planning to ban younger citizens from using cigarettes. Previously, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak also said the government should do something about youth vaping.

Here's what UK consumers need to know about the growth of vaping products.

Vaping and e-cigarette products are displayed in a store on December 19, 2019 in New York City. Congress raised the legal age to smoke or vape to 21. According to the FDA, in 2018, more than 3.6 million middle and high school students across the US used e-cigarettes.

According to Yahoo News' latest report, the data shared by NIQ and The Grocer on Saturday, December 16, revealed that vaping products' value sales drastically grew in the UK.

Marketing experts said that vape sales are estimated to be around $1.15 billion in 2023. The Lost Mary Brand of Heaven Gifts, a Chinese vape manufacturer, is the top vaping product.

With over 310 million pounds (almost $400 million) in sales in 2022, the Lost Mary vape is considered the fastest-growing grocery item in the United Kingdom.

Aside from sales, NIQ also announced that vapes' volume basis also increased dramatically, meaning that more and more consumers are starting to buy these e-cigarettes.

Based on the information that NIQ and The Grocer shared, British consumers are now purchasing vaping products instead of sports and energy drinks.

Although this is the case, these energy beverages are still among the fastest-growing UK grocery categories, thanks to the viral success of Prime Hydration (the brand promoted by the popular YouTuber-turned-boxer Logan Paul).

In this photo illustration the owner of a shop that sells electronic cigarettes demonstrates how to use one on March 1, 2012 in Berlin, Germany. The German government has announced that it classifies the liquids used in electronic cigarettes as pharmaceuticals because the liquids contain nicotine, and that sale of the liquids requires certification.

As more and more studies revealing the real dangers posed by vaping products appear, numerous countries are making efforts to ban their usage.

Euro News reported that the UK government is planning to copy a move of the Scottish government, which would restrict young people from using these e-cigarettes.

EU member countries are also announcing major crackdowns against vaping products, such as Ireland. Meanwhile, others already banned the use of vapes.

New Zealand, a country known for its very strict anti-tobacco guidelines, is one of them. Previously, Australia also announced anti-vaping measures as the Australian government accused the tobacco industry of trying to get teenagers to get addicted to nicotine.
