The number of people opting for various forms of plastic and cosmetic surgeries continues to rise, with butt-lift surgical procedure experiencing a 16 percent growth in 2013.

Plastic beauty seems to be the new fashion statement. According to new stats from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the number of Americans opting for various forms of plastic and cosmetic surgeries continues to rise, experiencing growth for four consecutive years.

"The demand for plastic surgery remains strong, with our statistics showing increases in both cosmetic surgical and minimally-invasive procedures," said ASPS President Robert X. Murphy in a press statement. "Facial rejuvenation procedures were especially robust last year, with more Americans opting for facelifts, forehead lifts, eyelid surgery, fillers and peels. With new devices and products hitting the market each year, there are more options and choices available to consumers wanting to refresh their look or a little nip and tuck."

In 2013 alone, over 15.1 million cosmetic surgery procedures, including both minimally-invasive and surgical, were performed. This number is a 3 percent rise from 2013. Additionally, 5.7 million reconstructive surgery procedures were performed last year, up 2 percent from the previous year.

Cosmetic minimally-invasive procedures increased 3 percent, to more than 13.4 million procedures in 2013. The most common form included Botulinum toxin type A, soft tissue fillers and Chemical peel, each seeing a 3 percent, 13 percent and 3 percent growth, respectively.

Laser hair removal treatments conducted in 2013 was one of the few cosmetic treatments that experienced a downslide in numbers, dropping 4 percent from the previous year. Despite that, a whopping 1.1 million such procedures were carried out last year.

It came as no surprise that botulinum toxins and facial fillers were among the most popular cosmetic treatments in the country last year. The hyaluronic acid filler saw a whopping 18 percent growth, with nearly 1.7 million procedures performed last year. The top five cosmetic surgical procedures included breast augmentation, nose reshaping, eyelid surgery, liposuction and facelift.

Researchers also noted that the number of Brazilian butt lift procedures conducted last year increased by nearly 16 percent. In fact, researchers also found that in 2013, 30 percent of plastic surgeons stated that they were doing butt augmentations, which was only 19 percent in 2012.

"It's just amazing, the numbers," said Dr. Douglas Taranow, a board-certified plastic surgeon in New York City's Upper East, via NBC News. "It's with J. Lo, and Beyoncé, and everyone else having a great derriere. ... I think people see that and they want to mirror image it."

Reconstructive plastic surgery, which improves function and appearance to abnormal structures, increased 2 percent in 2013. Tumor removal, laceration repair, maxillofacial surgery, scar revision, hand surgery and breast reconstruction were the top reconstructive plastic surgeries conducted last year.

"It's promising to see breast reconstruction rates rising," said Dr. Murphy. "Less than 20 percent of breast cancer patients undergo breast reconstruction because they are not always informed of their options, although studies show that reconstruction greatly improves quality of life. In 2012, we launched a multi-year breast reconstruction awareness campaign to educate, engage and empower women to make informed decisions about their healthcare following breast cancer diagnosis. We hope that these efforts will continue to increase awareness regarding the benefits of post-mastectomy breast reconstruction."

Experts speculate that new products and advances in technology may be the factors contributing to this boost. In 2013 alone, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved several new plastic surgery devices and products, including two form-stable silicone gel breast implants and a hyaluronic acid facial filler designed to treat mid-face volume loss.
