The YouTuber behind the California staged plane crash back in 2021 has been sent to prison after he was found guilty of intentionally crashing his one-seater airplane.

This was confirmed by the Central District of California on Monday, Dec. 4, saying that 30-year-old Trevor Daniel Jacob deliberately left his plane unmanned to crash just to generate online views.

Luckily, he was still able to get his pilot license. Here's the full story of the YouTuber who intentionally crashed his plane.

YouTuber Behind California Staged Plane Crash Sent to Prison

According to Fox News' latest report, Trevor Daniel Jacob posted a video titled "I Crashed My Airplane" in December 2021. In this content, he was filming himself claiming that his small plane was having an engine failure.

If you watch the first part of the video, you can see that the propeller of the airplane wasn't spinning. Because of this, Trevor had to leave the aircraft and jump out for his life.

After that, the video shifted to another angle. But, this time, the footage was captured by the YouTuber's camera, which was on a "selfie stick."

Aside from this, cameras were also suspiciously placed on the wing and tail of the airplane as if the YouTuber was really expecting for the airplane to crash.
Since what he did was very dangerous, his video got the interest of millions of people; generating over 4.4 million videos and 46,000 likes.

When authorities saw his content, an investigation began. In April 2022, the Federal Aviation Administration decided to revoke his pilot license.

The Verge reported that in May, Trevor decided to plead guilty to obstructing a federal investigation into the incident. This is because he submitted a false report regarding the airplane wreckage's location, as well as claiming that the aircraft had an engine failure.

Because of this, the Central District of California decided to send him to federal prison for six months.

Does the YouTuber Deserve It? Netizens Say Yes

As part of his plea deal, Trevor Jacob said that he only crashed his plane because he was making a YouTube video for a sponsorship deal. He agreed with the California district's decision to send him to prison and said that what happened was truly "humbling."

But, he was still happy since he was able to get his pilot license back. The YouTuber even posted a new video with the caption "We learn from our mistakes."

However, netizens weren't happy with what Jacob did.

"YOU CHOSE this. This didn't happen to you! YOU took the decision. You totally deserve it," a netizen said in the comment section.

Another netizen said that the charges he faces were supposed to have a maximum sentence of 20 years. The YouTube user was quite disappointed since Jacob is only facing six months of federal imprisonment and a small fine.
