A Walther P22 pistol, which according to media reports is similar to one of the weapons used by 23-year-old South Korean student Cho Seung-Hui in the Virginia Tech massacre, is pictured 17 April 2007 in Centerville, Virginia.

Gun homicides and suicides among American children and teens are now at a record high. This was revealed by a new database from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The data of the health organization covered suicides and homicides by gun in the United States between 2021 and 1999. Here's what the CDC discovered and why American parents should worry about it.

According to CNN's latest report, the CDC's database revealed that there were over 2,200 firearm homicides among teens and children in the U.S. back in 2021.

The report stated that these young American victims are between the ages of 1 year old and 8 years old. Experts said that the number provided by the CDC is twice as high compared to records a decade before.

Aside from this, the CDC also revealed that gun-related suicides have increased by 11% since the start of the global COVID-19 pandemic, which began in 2020.

Another alarming finding that the CDC disclosed is that not all children have the same level of risk when it comes to gun homicides and suicides.

The new database claimed that Black teens and children are more likely to be killed in firearm-related incidents compared to other kids of other races.

In 2021, 17 out of 100,000 Black children died because of firearms. This is definitely higher compared to White children. Researchers said that gun-related deaths in Black children and teens are six times higher compared to the rate in White children.

Crime scene tape is stretched around the front of a home where a man was shot on May 28, 2017, in Chicago, Illinois. Chicago police have added more than 1,000 officers to the streets over the Memorial Day weekend, hoping to put a dent in crime, during what is typically one of the more violent weekends of the year.

FEE Org reported that numerous studies already confirmed that banning guns will not reduce firearm homicides and other similar incidents.

This was seen between 1994 and 2004, which is the period when the federal government decided to restrict the sales, production, or transfer of assault weapons.

But, the Department of Justice's previous study showed that banning guns has no effect on the rising number of gun violence incidents.
