Toys 'R' Us Files For Bankruptcy
(Photo: Leon Neal/Getty Images) Customers walk towards a branch of the toy store Toys R Us on September 19, 2017, in Luton, England. The company has struggled to compete against online traders such as Amazon and has announced that it has filed for bankruptcy protection in the US and Canada. The company has stressed that these actions do not expect any immediate impact on their European branches due to the company running its operations independently.

Within a few short weeks, the iconic toy retailer Toys R Us will make its long-awaited return to the high street throughout the UK.

This means that, once again, parents must fight using every means possible to convince their kids to leave the toy shop and come home.

In a joint venture with WHSmith, the toy shop chain will build nine new locations on high streets, as reported by LADbible.

The Much-Anticipated Comeback

Customers of Toys R Us will finally be allowed to test out toys in-store again. This is in contrast to the previous practice, in which customers were only able to buy toys online since the company's demise and the closure of all of its 100 UK locations in 2018, as per DailyMail.

For the convenience of its customers, nine new chain stores will stock all the top brands, including Barbie, Lego, Fisher-Price, Hot Wheels, Paw Patrol, Play-Doh, and more.

Interactive experiences, activities, and demonstration tables will be set up throughout the stores. They will be segmented according to age range, interest, and product kind.

Of course, a life-size statue of Geoffrey the Giraffe will be there to welcome parents and kids as they walk in.

Customers may also browse the wide selection of toys in the shop and then place an online purchase for anything they like most.

The following sites are where you can find the Toys R Us shops when they open their doors to the public next week, June 10:

  • Canterbury (St George Street)
  • Chelmsford (High Street)
  • Cheltenham (High Street)
  • Cwmbran (The Mall)
  • Oxford (Cornmarket Street)
  • Poole (Towngate Shopping Centre)
  • Reading (Broad Street)
  • Solihull (Mell Square)
  • York (Monks Cross retail park)

On June 10, there will be a grand opening celebration for the first Toys R Us site in partnership with WHSmith, located in York's Monks Cross Retail Park.

Over the course of the rest of the summer, the remaining eight shops will progressively open their doors.

In Partnership With WHSmith

Sean Toal, managing director of WHSmith High Street, had some exciting words to say about the partnership's comeback.

He told The Sun, "At WHSmith, we're always exploring new opportunities to launch exciting new product ranges to our customers on the high street, and our partnership with Toys R Us certainly does this ... The brand has long been known for its exceptional range of toys and games and complements our existing offer well.

"Across each of the nine locations, we have a great team of colleagues who look forward to welcoming many new and existing customers over the coming weeks and showcasing the new store layout and, not forgetting, Geoffrey the Giraffe."
