According to Engadget, Disney is set to purge more than a dozen series and some films before the month ends affecting shows like 'Turner & Hooch' and the 'Y: Last Man.'

Notably, the giant streamer Netflix is notoriously known for ditching movies and shows from its platform from time to time. Showtime also recently removed some underperforming titles to save some money, The Verge reports. One of the popular streaming services these days, HBO Max, also started purging some titles last year.

Last August, Max ditched 36 shows, which did not spare some of its originals, including 'The Not Too Late Show with Elmo' and 'Generation.' And in December last year, the purge of shows prevailed. It shows like Westworld left the streamer.

Hulu and Disney+ are pursuing the same route this time, dropping multiple shows on May 26. As per The Verge, Disney boss Iger and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Christine McCarthy disclosed plans to remove some shows during the second quarter investor earnings call. The top brass of the entertainment giant revealed that their flagship streamer lost roughly 4 million subscribers in early 2023.

As a cost-cutting measure, the Disney CFO says, "We are in the process of reviewing the content on our [Direct to Consumer] services." The review led to the removal of a total of 59 shows, movies, and specials starting on May 26.
