Ford Motor Company unveils their new electric F-150 Lightning outside of their headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan on May 19, 2021.

As per a report by Reuters, the Blue Oval announced on Friday, May 5, that it plans to open the doors for more F-150 Lighting EV orders in the following week. The reopening comes as the giant automaker aims to expand the annual production of the highly sought-after electric truck to 150,000 units.

Electrek notes that the all-electric F-150 has been widely popular among consumers since its debut in May 2021. As it celebrates its two years in the market, it plans to welcome more orders, enabling excited customers to get behind the wheel of the EV.

The American carmaker touts that the F-150 Lightning is a pretty special offering, dubbing it the "smartest" and "most innovative" pickup truck in its entire history, which spans over a century.

Despite the intense demand, Ford faced hurdles in ramping up its production. Early this year, according to The New York Times, the renowned automaker had to pause the production and shipments of its electric truck due to a possible battery issue.

Reuters notes that the Blue Oval resumed F-150 Lightning production in March, a month after the battery fire triggered a production halt.

Now, Ford has confirmed that it plans to reopen the order for its highly sought-after electric truck. This time, it also opens its doors to customers with no reservations. Previously, the automaker only welcomed purchases from those with prior reservations.

According to Electrek, three out of four F-150 Lightning variants, such as the Platinum, Lariat, and XLT models, will be available again. On the other hand, the Pro trim option remains out of stock since it has already been sold out.

The Lariat trim starts at $75,974, whereas the XLT option costs $80,974. Meanwhile, the top-of-the-line Platinum variant sells for $98,074.

New F-150 Lightning Production Issue

While Ford plans to accept orders from all customers, even those with reservations, it faces a new production issue.

Sources of Reuters disclosed that the American automaker is now having problems with the door handles of the F-150 Lightning. The automaker admits that the "supplier part shortage is affecting some North American plants." But it assures everyone that they are planning to iron out this problem.
