King Charles III startled hundreds of applauding supporters assembling outside Buckingham Palace on Friday during preparations for his coronation.

The public cheered, "God save the King," as he stepped from his chauffeur-driven Bentley wearing a blue suit. As he moved slowly down the line, King Charles shook hands with fans and thanked them for being there.

Along with interacting with fans and taking pictures, Prince William and Kate also met and welcomed members of the public who had traveled from as far away as Thailand and the United States, according to Yahoo! Money.

The Royal Family's security staff urged the crowd to put their phones away and enjoy the rare moment with King Charles.

To have the best viewing spots for the King Charles coronation processions on Saturday, which will take up over half of the route, people have been camped out along The Mall for several nights.

The Royal Family waved to the crowd before proceeding to Buckingham Palace in their cars, per CBS News.

The Challenge For King Charles

When his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, passed away last year, Charles automatically ascended to the throne of Britain.

The ceremonial event that will crown him as the next king has been meticulously organized for months and has required a massive security force.

Despite all the preparations, King Charles struggles to remain relevant as support for the monarchy continues to decline, especially among younger generations less interested in its conventions and traditions, according to AP News.

In a time of economic difficulty for many Britons, some are questioning the King Charles coronation ceremony's cost, which has yet to be assessed.
