While fans have been eagerly awaiting Jason Momoa's upcoming sequel 'Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom' for quite some time, numerous reports now confirm test screenings that did not meet expectations.

In December of this year, Jason Momoa-starring Aquaman 2, is scheduled for release. Nothing concerning Jason Momoa's future has been officially confirmed, although the lead actor is reportedly to play Aquaman and Lobo in James Gunn's new DC Universe.

And things aren't going so well for the Aquaman star's upcoming DC movie as fans wait for the company to unveil what they have in store for him. The 2018 action adventure sequel has already been screened several times.

These test screenings did not succeed in captivating the audience. According to sources who saw these test screenings, many people thought it was the worst DCEU movie ever.

Recent DC movies have received some not-so-impressive reviews. While the early DCEU movies, like Black Adam, ended up with mixed reviews, Blue Beetle and The Flash seemed to be doing well. The Ezra Miller movie has earned much praise and is thought to be the best DC movie yet.

For Aquaman 2, though, that might not be the case. It has so far conducted six test screenings and reportedly failed each one. The movie has been called "boring" and "perhaps the weakest DCEU picture" so far, according to FandomWire.

According to Reddit user Insider ViewerAnon, the movie does not look amazing even after "half a dozen test screenings." He was supported in his assessment of the movie by another insider, who claimed that "test screenings for [Aquaman 2] have not been good."

According to business insider Jeff Sneider, the film's test screenings were not well received, which may be the cause of Momoa's speculated move to Lobo in James Gunn's new DC Universe. Due to Amber Heard's participation in the sequel, Aquaman 2 has already encountered difficulties. Insiders have also said that since Amber Heard doesn't have much screen time in the follow-up, it has nothing to do with her being there.

Jason Momoa previously asserted that while he could play different roles, Aquaman would be his permanent alter ego. Many were led to assume that he could play the King of Atlantis and join the new DC Universe as Lobo. The co-CEO, however, appears to have refuted the reports that the Slumberland actor played two personas in the DC Universe. Lobo, a DC villain, has always been Jason Momoa's dream role.

Fans also hoped for the best for him as he posted a video on Twitter expressing his excitement about his future in James Gunn and Peter Safran's DC Universe. It was also believed that he might eventually portray two DC characters. According to a recent rumor, Jason Momoa will no longer play Aquaman because the next sequel is allegedly "terrible."

According to Cosmic Book News, ViewerAnon stated, "I'll be honest, we're half a dozen test screening in, and it's not looking great," in a since-deleted tweet. During the past six months, I've heard many people say it's dull, not as good as the previous one, and possibly one of the worst DCEU films.

It shouldn't be a surprise that the movie doesn't perform well with preview audiences after Jason Momoa recently stated that it has a lengthy lecture about climate change. The idea of Aquaman lecturing the UN and moviegoers about climate change and melting ice caps sounds like a really captivating story.

Amber Heard's Legal Troubles Affect 'Aquaman 2'

The recent legal troubles involving Amber Heard have already caused controversy surrounding the imminent Aquaman 2 release, leading many to wonder if the actress will still appear. Per HITC, the backlash over her protracted court dispute with her ex-husband Johnny Depp was so strong that some fans even started a petition to have her removed from the sequel.

The responses to some of the early Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom test screenings have now surfaced. They present an even more alarming picture for a movie that is expected to be the last release in the DC Extended Universe before James Gunn and Peter Safran's reboot of the series.

After online reports that she had been dropped due to her legal disputes with Johnny Depp, Amber Heard confirmed to EW in November 2020 that she would resume her role in Aquaman 2.

Heard does, however, feature in the Aquaman sequel, although it's been rumored that her part as Mera has been scaled back and altered. The actress admitted as much at the controversial court hearing last year, saying that new script drafts "basically stripped a load out of my role. They erased a lot."

DC has reason to be concerned, given the Amber Heard incident and responses to some of the movie's early test screenings. Big Screen Leaks (BSL), another reliable insider source, responded to ViewerAnon's tweets: "It brings me no joy to back him up and tell you that test screenings for this picture have not been good. I sincerely hope Wan corrects this picture before December."

Also, this prompted a response from movie critic Jeff Sneider, who said: "I hear it's bad, which is why Momoa will now play Lobo. But they cannot do so now since it would be a pathetic duck. DC wants to make another $1 billion at the box office. Not a great surprise as the first one was also terrible."
