One military expert believes that Russia has lost over 1,000 tanks as its forces struggle in the Ukraine war.

Russia has lost close to half of its active tank assets since the Ukraine conflict began as its military fails to accomplish Vladimir Putin's objectives in the Russia-Ukraine war, per the estimates of a monitoring organization.

Since the Russia-Ukraine war started on February 24, 2022, users of the open-source intelligence platform Oryx have been uploading photographic proof of military hardware losses in the country, per CNN.

This Monday, the organization said it had confirmed the losses of 1,000 Russian tanks during the conflict. According to the report, Ukrainian troops have seized 544 Russian tanks, while 79 have been disabled and 65 have been left behind.

Military expert and Oryx blog contributor Jakub Janovsky stated the number does not account for casualties that the organization could not confirm visually. He speculated that the figure might be closer to 2,000 Russian tanks.

Aside from Russian tanks, Vladimir Putin has lost another general in the conflict in Ukraine.

Major General Dmitry Ulyanov was reportedly killed this week in an assault by a Ukrainian sabotage squad. The 44-year-old military official had recently come out of retirement to lead Putin's troops in the Russia-Ukraine war.

Ulyanov has extensive experience in the Russian military, having served as the 98th Guards Airborne Division's former commander, according to The Sun.
