ZHANGJIAKOU, CHINA - FEBRUARY 09: Gold medallist, Lindsey Jacobellis of Team United States celebrates during the Women's Snowboard Cross medal ceremony on Day 5 of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games at Zhangjiakou Medal Plaza on February 09, 2022 in Zhangjiakou, China.

At the Beijing Olympics, the United States is finally on the board in the gold column. On Wednesday, Lindsey Jacobellis won the women's snowboard cross event, and she became the first American athlete to win a gold medal.

Lindsey Jacobellis Gets US's Gold Medal at 2022 Olympics

Jacobellis, 36, became the oldest snowboarder to win a medal at the Olympics, and it was her second in as many Olympics. Jacobellis also became the oldest American woman to win a gold medal in any event at the Winter Olympics. Kikkan Randall, a cross-country skier who won a gold medal at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, had previously held the record.

On Wednesday, Jacobellis took an early lead over Chloe Trespeuch of France in the snowboard cross race and never looked back. In terms of the snowboard cross event, it was an opportunity for Jacobellis to redeem himself. Jacobellis crashed while reaching the finish line with a chance to win a gold medal at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino. In those Olympics, Jacobellis had to settle for a silver medal.

Jacobellis has also failed to win a medal at the next three Winter Games since that crash. Jacobellis, on the other hand, is no stranger to winning. She has won 30 world cups, ten gold medals at the X Games, and six world championships in her career, CBS reported.

Is Nathan Chen Next In Bringing Home The Gold Medal?

Throughout the years, Nathan Chen has been working toward this goal. He's just one excellent free skate away from winning an Olympic gold medal. Following his world record-breaking short program, Chen will compete in the Olympics on Wednesday. A significant day for the United States, with Chloe Kim poised to compete for a gold medal in snowboarding.

Chen not only won the short program, but he also placed eighth behind Yuzuru Hanyu of Japan. Chen's route to gold became much clearer as a result. Hanyu's reign has been dominated by the three-time world champion Chen, who placed sixth at the 2018 Olympics. Perhaps it was expected, but the results of the short-track speedskating competition have already sparked some debate. After two of its skaters were disqualified in the semifinals of the men's 1,000 meters, South Korea lodged complaints with the International Skating Union and the International Olympic Committee. Fans in South Korea, according to Yoon Hong Geun, are so outraged that they are asking the squad to come home as soon as possible, according to WLWT5.

US Medals at The 2022 Winter Olympics so Far

The United States finished fourth overall with 23 medals at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang. On the other hand, Team USA won a total of nine gold medals, eight silver medals, and six bronze medals. Norway, Germany, and Canada finished in the top three in terms of overall and gold medals. In 2022, how will the United States fare? Here's how many medals has Team USA won so far:

1. Lindsey Jacobellis - Gold in Women's Snowboard Cross

In her sixth Games appearance, Lindsey Jacobellis was the first to cross the finish line and win the coveted snowboard cross gold she's been after for over two decades. Jacobellis is the oldest Olympian to win a medal in snowboarding at the age of 36.

2. Julia Marino - Silver Medal in Women's Snowboarding Slopestyle

At the 2022 Winter Olympics, Marino became the first American to win a medal. Her first run was 30.61, and her second run was 87.68, which earned her the medal.

3. Jaelin Kauf - Silver Medal in Women's Moguls

Kauf took silver in her second Olympic participation, finishing second behind Jakara Anthony of Australia. After a dominating effort by Anthony, Kauf secured three points and the United States' second medal of the Winter Games.

4. Team USA - Silver Medal in Figure Skating Team Event

Alexa Knierim (Addison, IL) and Brandon Frazier (Colorado Springs, CO) earned 128.97 in the Pairs' Free Skate. The free dance was won by Madison Chock (Redondo Beach, CA) and Evan Bates (Ann Arbor, MI), who performed their Daft Punk show. In the Women's Free Skate, Karen Chen (Fremont, CA) received a score of 131.52 points.

5. Ryan Cochran-Siegle - Silver Medal in Men's Super-G

Fifty years after his mother, Barbara Ann Cochran, won gold at the 1972 Winter Olympics in Sapporo, American Alpine skier Ryan Cochran-Siegle earned an improbable silver medal. Matthias Mayer of Austria won the gold medal with a time of 1:19.94, which Cochran-Siegle came within four hundredths of.

6. Jessie Diggins - Bronze Medal in Cross-Country Skiing

Diggins is the first American to win multiple Olympic medals in cross-country skiing after earning gold in the team sprint in 2018 with teammate Kikkan Randall (Anchorage, Alaska). She is also the first American woman to win an individual cross-country skiing medal at the Olympics.

7. Colby Stevenson - Silver in Freestyle Skiing

With Stevenson's silver medal, the United States now has its fifth silver and sixth total medal at these Games. Following a series of health challenges, including a near-fatal automobile accident in 2016, he has now won.

Team USA Gears up at Winter Olympics

In the first week of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, Team USA had a variety of setbacks, including COVID-19, injuries, and performance issues that forced competitors to withdraw from the competition.

The United States has seven medals and is ranked 10th in the Olympic medal count at 12:00 on Wednesday, US time.

Lindsey Jacobellis won her first gold medal for Team USA in the women's snowboard cross event. It also took silver in five events: men's super-G and figure skating team competitions, women's mogul and men's Freeski big air, and women's slopestyle snowboarding, as per NBC Sports.
