Apple is rumored to have been looking for alternative innovations to cord-charging and some of their experiments include the solar power and induction charging. These new ways of charging batteries will be used in the Apple iWatch.

The tech giant has been under pressure to look for other ways to prolong the battery life for the iWatch because it will have a lot of features that can drain the battery's life even before the day ends. However, the biggest problem that this imposes is that while the devices themselves are getting smaller, the batteries made to power them are struggling to be compatible with the newest mobile trends.

According to a Mac Observer report, one of the innovations that Apple is looking into is the induction charging system. This system enables the user to make their watch rely on electromagnetic fields to get electricity for the battery instead of using the traditional plugged chargers. The induction charging system is also likely to make the watch smaller and more compact since there is no need for external connectors for chargers.

On the other hand, Apple is also experimenting with solar energy in helping their users keep their iWatch fully charged. The company is the current holder of the patent for the curved battery, and they can use this as a skeleton/trial platform for solar panels which can be included in the wrist watch's design. The solar panel will then assume the task of converting solar energy to electric energy that the watch can use.

The New York Times also reported that Apple recently hired engineers who are proficient and experienced in solar energy. The company also has the patent for kinetic or motion-based energy, which is one of the potential alternatives to plugged charging.

Apple has also thought of introducing cordless charging for their other products such as iPhone and iPads but they quickly dropped it after knowing that most users keep their mobile devices inside their pockets or in their bags while they are on the go.
