Rockstar Games has announced that it will be making all servers of its popular multiplayer "Grand Theft Auto Online" unavailable for about 24 hours starting late on Thursday. The company will be keeping the servers down in order to do some maintenance on the game for users.

As of right now, the servers are set to shut down around 6 p.m. (PT), 9 p.m. (ET) and 2 a.m. (GMT). The outage is supposed to last through most of tomorrow, Thursday Jan. 16. The post announcing the news concludes by saying "we expect to be back up within 24 hours. Apologies for the inconvenience." This suggests that it might be possible for the servers to go back up early if the scheduled maintenance doesn't take as long as expected.

"GTA Online" has kept the best-selling and Guinness World Record setting game alive following player's completion of the game's story mode. It allows users to join up to fifteen other friends and strangers as they romp through the city of Los Santos driving cars, jumping out of plans, shooting at each other or shooting at others.

According to IGN, "GTA V" was recently revealed to be the UK's fourth biggest-selling game of all time. Upon its release back in September of 2013, "GTA V" became the country's fastest-selling video game title ever. It even managed to overtake lifetime sales of its predecessor "Grand Theft Auto 4" in just three weeks following its launch. It followed this success by taking seven Guinness World Records for its sales.

This is the first time in the game's short history that the servers have experienced a mandatory shut down.
