A new discovery might place Mars into good use for the people here on Earth. A small metal-like meteorite dubbed as the "egg rock" has been discovered on the said planet.

This is bringing up speculations that the red planet could be home to large nickel deposits. NASA's Mars Curiosity Rover is reported to have taken a photograph of the metallic rock on October 31.

The said meteorite is speculated to be made of nickel iron, as per an analysis by the NASA researchers, reports claim. Researches have been conducted after the Mars Curiosity Rover has managed to capture a photo of a mysterious snaked-shaped object on Mars just at the end of October.

Mars, which is the closest planet to the asteroid belt other than Jupiter, is the common site for meteorite discoveries. It is believed that the Egg Rock meteorite could have liquidized as it entered the planet's atmosphere before hardening yet again due to the smoothness of its surface and deep grooves. The Mars Curiosity Rover had previously found its first ever iron meteorite just four years ago after its first landing on the planet for the mission in 2012.

The first discovered iron meteorite, then named Lebanon, was about 2 meters wide, physically much bigger than the Egg Rock. The recent discovery of the snake-shaped object could be viewed between rocks on the planet's surface in high-quality pictures issued by NASA.

Zooming in on the image appears to make the image a lot less clear. This is why NASA settled with a reasonable distance to take the picture.

It is seen as tapering, much like a real snake. Closer analysis has revealed what appears to be the creature's head. Hundreds of theorists and researchers have speculated that this might be the moment that Mars will become another source for Nickel, which can be gathered through another mission probably sent to Mars in the near future.
