The Boston Bombers, a semi-pro women's basketball team, will change their team name in the aftermath of the Boston Marathon bombings.

According to Gawker, the women's basketball team has already shutdown their website, and deactivated both their Facebook and Twitter accounts in an effort to distance themselves from the horrible event.

"We changed it due to the events Monday," a team spokesperson e-mailed. "Our fans [were] not happy with the name."

The team's logo featured a black, basketball-shaped bomb with a lit fuse beside the words "Boston Bombers".

The Daily Mail reports that the team's new name will be the Boston Bulldogs.

Earlier this week, athletic company Nike made similar adjustments in deference to those effected by the bombings and removed a product line of shirts that read "Boston Massacre".

The shirt was intended as a reference to Major League Baseball's New York Yankees beating the Boston Red Sox in 1978 and 2006, according to International Design Times.

The Boston Marathon bombings killed three people and wounded over 250. The city of Boston was paralyzed in terror for the next five days as a frenzied hunt for the suspects ensued.

Suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26, died in a police shootout on April 19. His brother, Dzhokhar, 19, was seriously wounded and taken into police custody later that night; he's currently recovering at a Boston hospital and is expected to survive.

Reports suggest that Dzhokar is cooperating with law enforcement officials. He was charged on April 22 with using a weapon of mass destruction.
