MTV's  "Scream" Season 3 has officially been renewed. Premiering on 2017, the upcoming season is reported to have six episodes unlike seasons 1 and 2 with 10 and 13 episodes respectively. The reduced number of episodes sparked a rumor that season 3 might be the show's last season, although Dimension TV has not confirmed yet.

"Scream" Season 3 also comes with a showrunner change. Michael Gans and Richard Register, who were brought in as the showrunners of Season 2 following the departure of Season 1's Jill Blotevogal and Jaime Paglia, are gone. The new showrunners for the third season have yet to be announced.

According to Deadline, "Scream" has had a bumpy run on TV. It experienced the decrease in viewers to  377,000 viewers in Live+same day in Season 2, which is half of the viewers it gathered in Season 1.

"Scream" Season 3 teases that the Lakewood survivors will find themselves in another bloody standoff, leaving them to wonder if an old legend is coming back to life or has murder followed them from Lakewood? "Could there be more Scream to come?" International Business Times has noted.

On the bright side, Hollywood Life reported that there will be a two-hour "Scream" Halloween special on October 18, which sets the stage for the new season. It's picking up eight months after Kieran (Amadeus Serafini) was exposed as Lakewood's killer and was consequently arrested.

Harvey and Bob Weinstein, Tony DiSanto, Liz Gateley, Marianne Maddalena and Cathy Konrad serves as the executive producers of "Scream" while Matthew Signer and Keith Levine are the producers under Dimension TV.

The two-hour "Scream" Halloween Special will air on Tuesday, October 18,2016, at 9:00 p.m. first and exclusive on MTV.

As of now, there are no details yet regarding "Scream" Season 3 casting, location or production.
