While most technology companies are gearing up for big unveilings at next week's CES 2014, Acer has shocked many by unveiling three new tablets. Of the newly announced devices, two reportedly run on Google's Android operating system and the other runs on Microsoft's Windows 8.1.

According to reports from Information Week, all three of the new tablets offer smaller screen sizes and low prices for the budget-conscious consumer. The new Acer Iconia A1-830 is the first of the Android duo, featuring a 7.9-inch, 1,024x768 LCD screen with in-plane switching technology. Acer says the 4:3 aspect ratio panel will offer viewing angels up to 178 degrees. The tablet is powered by an Intel Atom Z2569 1.6 GHz processor with 1GB of RAM that the company says will deliver enough power for gaming, video playback and fast multitasking. Other specs reported by Information Week include 16GB of onboard storage, micro SD memory support, dual speakers, a 5MP camera with 1,080p HD video capture, Bluetooth and WiFi.

Meanwhile, the Iconia B1 features lower-quality specifications to the A1-830, featuring a seven-inch display that supports 10-point touch and is run by a dual-core 1.3 GHz processor with 1GB of RAM. Acer has raised the build quality and given the B1 a soft-touch back cover to make it easier to hold, as well as interchangeable shells for custom colors. Acer has moved the microphone and speaker from the front of the tablet and added a front-facing camera for video chatting. It has similar 16GB storage and micro SD capabilities. It will be available in mid-January in a WiFi model and a 3G wiFi model.

Finally, the Iconia W4, a Windows 8.1 device, features an 8.1-inch screen with a 16:10 aspect ratio and 1,280x800 pixels. According to Acer, the LCD panel uses IPS technology, like the A1-830, and offers 170 degree viewing angles. The tablet improves outdoor readability woth a reduced glare screen. The W4 is powered by a fourth-generation Intel Atom 1.8GHz processor and comes with 32 or 64GB of internal storage. It sports a 5MP camera in the rear with 1080p HD video capture and a 2MP front-facing camera. It includes features like Microsoft Office Home and Student for the more productivity minded consumers.
