Hollywood's most celebrated couple, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are headed for a split as Jolie filed for divorce, citing "irreconcilable differences" with Pitt as the reason for their separation. The divorce rumors had been swirling around for a few months but now they have been confirmed.

Jolie's lawyer has filed the case and now the high-profile "Brangelina" story is officially over. However, it has to be admitted that their relationship spanned a long period of time and the couple was amongst the most admired people in Tinseltown. The timeline of their relationship is pretty interesting, claims Hollywood Reporter. They fell in love on the sets of "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" and at that time, Pitt was still married to Jennifer Aniston.

The film wrapped up shooting in 2004 and in January 2005, Pitt separated from Aniston. Soon after, Pitt and Jolie started living together. In 2006 Jolie admitted in an interview to Vogue that they found a strange friendship and partnership with each other and just became kind of a pair. In 2005, she also adopted a baby with Pitt and in 2006 gave birth to their first biological child, Shiloh.

2007 saw the couple adopting another child when they took custody of Pax Thien, a 3-year-old orphan from Vietnam. Next year, Jolie gave birth to twins Knox Leon and Vivienne. Four years later, in 2012, they got engaged and in August 2014, tied the knot.

Trouble started brewing around a year and a half later when it was rumored that Pitt had gotten closer to his co-star Marion Cotillard, with whom he was filming Robert Zemeckis' "Allied." Insiders claim that Pitt's infidelity had sown the seeds of discontent in Brangelina's marriage and they had started contemplating divorce.

Some were also saying that Jolie was just insecure while some speculated that Pitt's ex Aniston was causing problems in their relationship, Entertainment Weekly reported. It is still not clear what actually led to the separation.

What one knows is that Jolie has cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for divorce and has demanded the physical custody of all the six children. She has not asked for any spousal or child support.
