Microsoft has announced its way out from manufacturing fitness bands, saying that the Band 2 will be the last of its kind that will come from them. The tech giant now plans to focus on the Microsoft Health platform.

As per The Motley Fool, Microsoft may have a strong edge in other tech businesses, but the health platform seems to prove a difficult field for the company to take. The first version of the wearable Band device released in 2014 did not shine as expected. Band 2, which sought to address the Band's shortcomings, introduced technological and design improvements alongside cost-reduction schemes, although the same didn't do well as Microsoft would've wanted.

In its statement, Microsoft said: "We continue to invest and innovate in the Microsoft Health platform, which is open to all hardware and apps partners across Windows, iOS, and Android devices. We also continue to sell Microsoft Band 2 and remain deeply committed to supporting our customers and exploring the wearables space."

According to Fool, Microsoft iterated that it will be turning its attention to its cross-platform Microsoft Health service. Microsoft assumes that the cross-platform strategy will be successful in the health platform as it was seen to be successful in other areas.

The current known fact is that Fitbit stands firm in the wearables market; it has placed itself to the top spot in the list of wearable devices shipment in this year as per the newly released IDC reports. The company's fitness trackers are highly popular than those of others in the fitness device market, as they offer the best features for affordable prices compared to other fitness trackers in the market.
