CBS has officially announced the last episode of "How I Met Your Mother" will air in March 2014.

"After 208 episodes told over nine seasons, the story of how Ted Mosby ultimately meets his children's mother will conclude with a special one-hour series finale on Monday, March 31," CBS said in a statement.

The finale will be an hour long special featuring the show's stars stars Josh Radnor (Ted Mosby), Jason Segel (Marshall Ericksen), Cobie Smulders (Robin Scherbatsky), Neil Patrick Harris (Barney Stinson), Alyson Hannigan (Lily Aldrin) and Cristin Milioti (The Mother).

HIMYM creators are reportedly working on a spinoff to the popular series with 20th Century Fox, according to multiple reports.

"I hear the new characters could be introduced in the HIMYM series finale, and Ted, Barney, Marshall, Lily and Robin's favorite hangout, MacLaren's Pub, may be featured on the new show, serving as a link between the two gangs," Deadline reports. "The premise, which is not tied to any of the original HIMYM characters, gives [show writers] Bays, Thomas and Spivey a clean slate to build new characters and relationships."
