Rayna and Deacon have had some moments together throughout Season 2 but they don't seem to be heading towards a relationship. The Queen of Country has been dating Luke Wheeler (Will Chase) -- although they seemed to have a pretty weird break up in the midseason finale -- and Deacon (Charles Esten) has been with Megan (Christina Chang).

Showrunner Dee Johnson recently praised the Megan/Deacon relationship, according to TVLine.com, saying Megan "has been good" for Maddie's biological father. Johnson adds Deacon "is working really hard to be healthy emotionally."

Nevertheless, Johnson says whatever there is between Deacon and Rayna (Connie Britton) will not be ignored.

"We can't ignore the fact that Deacon and Rayna are connected in the deepest possible way. No matter what we do, that's always going to be an undercurrent," the showrunner said.

When Nashville returns on Jan. 15, everyone will still be dealing with the shocking events from the midseason finale. No one has seen Will (Chris Carmack) and Teddy (Eric Close) is worried about protecting Rayna and the girls because Peggy (Kimberly Williams-Paisley) was shot.

Although the preview for next episode gives us a glimpse into the aftermath of the midseason finale's events, it doesn't give away which character is going to die.

Juliette (Hayden Panettiere) had a pretty nasty couple days during the last episode. She got heckled at her concert and then realized Avery (Jonathan Jackson) was taken after going to his apartment to confess her love to him. As you can see below, the annoyance fans have for her since her affair with Carter Wentworth (Charlie Bewley) was made public, hasn't gone away.

Finally, the video shows Gunnar (Sam Palladio) and Scarlett (Clare Bowen) are going to get a big opportunity as Kelly Clarkson (she will guest star as herself) wants to record a song they wrote together. However, Scarlett may have not gotten over the fact Gunnar and Zoey (Chaley Rose) were secretly together.

"Nashville" returns on Jan. 15 on ABC.
