Sony has reportedly been working on a virtual reality headset to rival that of the Oculus Rift, which has been gaining a lot of attention in the gaming community since its showcase at this year's E3 2013 gaming conference. Some rumors have stated that Sony is even hoping to get a product out to consumers sometime in early 2014. As a result, many believe the company is planning a big unveiling of the product during its time at this year's CES 2014.

Sony CEO Kazuo Hirai is scheduled to deliver a keynote address as part of the Tech Titans keynote series, in which "CEOs form the most powerful companies in technology present their vision for revolutions in products, services and networks."

As TechRadar notes, Sony is coming off a holiday sales high where it saw the release of the PlayStation 4 break sales records. While a few high-end smartphones may be in the works for the company at CES 2014, it's likely that games are still on the tip of the company's tongue.

In addition to Hirai talking sales figures and Sony's role in pushing new hardware innovations forward, many expect he will take this opportunity to be the first competitor to the Oculs Rift and showcase a Sony-based virtual reality headset.

So far the future of gaming remains to be seen but many who have seen what the latest virtual reality technology can do believe that having thumbsticks create an X and Y axis of view is going to be a thing of the past and that the future way to turn your character's head will simply be by turning your own. A keynote address where CEOs are supposed to discuss their "vision for revolutions in products, services and networks" sounds like the kind of place to drop this kind of technology from the make of one of the world's best gaming consoles.
