Koei Tecmo turned heads several weeks ago when it unveiled its newest entry in the long-running "Dynasty Warriors" series, "Dynasty Warriors: Eikentsuden." It then sparked curiosity when it revealed that the game would not be a hack and slash game, like almost of all the games that came before it, but a tactical RPG instead.

Information about the upcoming game was sparse, with Koei Tecmo only revealing a few pieces of information such as snippets of the story, character details and a trailer. However, in-depth information about the game such as a release date was still unknown, leaving fans waiting for more.

That wait ended on Thursday when Koei Tecmo announced during a Famitsu live stream that "Dynasty Warriors: Eiketsuden" will launch for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PS Vita on Aug. 3 in Japan. There was no announcement concerning an English localization, but considering the fanbase of the game abroad, an English version is more of a matter of "when" than "if."

The PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 versions will go for 6,800 yen (about $62) plus tax for both digital and retail versions. Meanwhile, the PlayStation Vita version will cost 5,800 yen (about $53) plus tax for both digital and retail versions.

A "Treasure Box" limited edition will be available for 10,800 yen (about $99) plus tax for the PS4 and PS3, or 9,800 yen (about $90) plus tax for the PS Vita.

It will include:

- Original soundtrack
- "Dynasty Warriors" 15th Anniversary Character Creation Book
- Long poster collection (set of 8)
- Product code to download a "Yukata Costume" for Li Xia
- Copy of the game

Lastly, first-print copies of either version will include a product code to download a "Diaochan Costume" for Li Xia.

Koei Tecmo also revealed all of the characters from the various dynasties and factions that will appear in the game:

Shu Dynasty:

Wei Dynasty:

Wu Dynasty:

Jin Dynasty/Other:

You'll notice that this roster is noticeably smaller than the ones featured in some of the more recent games. For example, Xing Cai and Yue Ying from the Shu Dynasty, Wang Yi and Cai Wenji from the Wei Dynasty, as well as Zhang Chunhua, Jia Chong and many other members from the Jin Dynasty appear to be missing. In fact, the tribal factions seem to be gone entirely with both Meng Huo and Zhu Rong absent. It appears the only faction left fully intact was the Wu Dynasty (with the exception of Ding Feng).

Even with a reduced cast, the staff noted that some of these characters won't appear in the story. Rather, they will be recruited through side missions and then brought along to be used in story mode.
