Cornerback Patrick Robinson has reportedly signed a three year deal with the Indianapolis Colts that is worth $14 million with $6 million guaranteed. Robinson was linked to the Dallas Cowboys, but he has apparently changed agents, causing contract negotiations to fall flat as they attempted to sign the former first rounder.

This seemed to be a power play at first by Robinson or his new agent to squeeze some more money out of the Cowboys; however the former first round pick (who has only 10 starts and one interception during the 2015 season) has found Indianapolis to be a better fit.

Robinson allowed the most touchdowns out of any defensive back in 2012 however since then he has steadily risen to be one of the more reliable options at the position. The Cowboys would have likely more use for Robinson than the Colts but both teams had a rough 2015 season on the defensive side of the ball.

Indianapolis will now have a cornerback to start next to their star cornerback Vontae Davis giving this secondary some consistency. This will be Robinson's third team in three years as he looks to cement a role in the Colts defense.

The Colts have finally landed a free agent cornerback as they look to replace Greg Toler who is currently a free agent. It was clear after Toler's play last season that the Colts were looking for an upgrade and have found one in Robinson. Indianapolis will likely explore the cornerbacks heading into the 2016 NFL Draft as they look to land one of the top prospects at the position.

The Colts secondary was not a solid unit by any means but they will become a bit more productive with the addition of Robinson and a first round draft pick.Signing Robinson is a huge boost for the Colts, but in the long run, the answer to their woes in the secondary will be solved by effective drafting and developing a pass rush.

Since the Colts have signed Robinson, expect the Cowboys to target former Philadelphia Eagle and Pittsburgh Steeler Brandon Boykin.  The Cowboys met with former Cincinnati Bengal Leon Hall but decided not to offer him a contract. This is a big blow for Dallas as they head into the NFL draft with an overpriced and ineffective cornerback in Brandon Carr who they were looking to replace.
