Actor Paul Walker has died at the age of 40. The "Fast and Furious" star and an unnamed passenger died Saturday afternoon (Nov. 30) after his vehicle crashed into a tree, TMZ reports. The accident occurred outside of Los Angeles in Santa Clarita, Calif.

According to reports, Walker's Porsche lost control and crashed into a tree. The car burst into flames and then exploded. His rep confirmed the news on Facebook writing:

"It is with a truly heavy heart that we must confirm that Paul Walker passed away in a tragic car accident while attending a charity event for his organization Reach Out Worldwide. He was a passenger in a friend's car, in which both lost their lives. We appreciate your patience as we too are stunned and saddened beyond belief by this news. Thank you for keeping his family and friends in your prayers during this very difficult time."

TMZ reports that the actor was attending an event at the time and had been taking people on test drives in his car to raise money for victims of the typhoon in the Philippines. The accident occurred around 3 p.m. on the 28300 block of Rye Canyon Loop in Valencia, CBS 2 reports.

The car accident is still being investigated by the Los Angeles County Sherriff's Office and the county's coroner will release further details once information on the crash becomes available.

Walker is best known for his roles in the franchise "Fast and Furious" but has also appeared in other movies including "Takers," "Flags of Our Fathers" and "Varsity Blues." The other person in the car has not been identified.
